Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) by Sellers

How do I list my boat on your web site for sale?
Go to the web site (www.antiqueboat.com) and click on "list your boat" Complete the listing agreement and submit to us. Also, we need a good set of color pictures either emailed or snail mailed to us (Antique Boat; 5521 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH. 45217).

What does it cost me to list my boat on your site?
We are full time antique/classic boat brokers working on a NON-exclusive basis (we only receive compensation if we bring the buyer to you).

What is your compensation?
We work in one of two ways- 10% of selling price or "net to seller".

Why should I list my boat with you?
We are a full time antique/classic boat broker. We only receive compensation if we sell your boat. In addition to our Cincinnati showroom, we have a very active and powerful web site, which will give your boat significant exposure.

Is there an advantage for me to bring my boat to your Cincinnati showroom?
Definitely yes!! If prospective buyers see your boat on a regular basis, it will sell much faster than if it is tucked away in your garage.

Is there any cost to me for keeping my boat in your showroom?
Yes, there is a monthly rent based upon length (e.g. 18'- $31; 22' - $35). We bill you on a quarterly basis and refund to you any unused storage when your boat is sold.

Can you pick up my boat and take it to Cincinnati?
Yes we can at a cost of approximately $1.75 per loaded mile (one way distance).

Do I need to carry insurance on my boat while it is in your showroom?
Yes, we recommend carrying "Port Risk Only" coverage. We have insurance, which would pay for damage to your boat caused by our negligence.

Would you ever operate my boat?
We will not operate a boat for a prospective buyer without your prior approval. If a buyer wants to purchase your boat subject to a water test, that would be made as a condition of sale, and only performed if you the seller accepted the offer with that contingency.

Do I owe you anything if I sell my boat to someone not brought to me by you?
All that you would owe us is a phone call or email advising us that the boat has been sold.

Can I advertise the boat my self.
Yes you can, and if the buyer comes to you through that ad, you owe us nothing. If we conclude the sale with that buyer, our commission is ½ normal commission.

Will you take my boat in trade?
Since we are brokers, we would need to have the seller of the boat you want to purchase, agree to accept your boat as part of the sale. If the seller is unwilling, we would possibly buy your boat, however, not at full retail.

Why should I buy a boat through your company and not directly from an owner?
We are in the business of selling antique/classic boats, and want to continue doing this for years to come. The individual owner is interested in selling his boat, and "buyer beware".

How do I know that the boat I am buying through you is sound?
We require that any boat you might want to buy through us would be purchased on a contingency basis- "purchase is subject to receiving satisfactory marine hull and mechanical inspection".

How do I make an offer on one of your boats?
We accept a verbal offer and when an agreed upon price is obtained between you and the seller, we confirm in writing with signatures from both you and the seller.

Can I have a water test?
Yes we can make the purchase also "subject to satisfactory water test".

Do you provide any guarantee or warranty?
On any of the antique/classic boats, the pre-purchase inspection is only way that we know that potential problems can be found. Remember you are buying something that is 35-70 years old. We do provide 5-year warranty on the new Barrel Backs.

How can I be sure that I am getting the boat with a clear title?
Our purchase agreement requires that the seller provide clear title. If he fails to do that, the sale would be terminated.

How do I pay for the boat?
If you wish to take the boat with you, we need certified check, cash, wire transfer, or cashier's check. We do accept Master card and Visa on a limited basis. Some financing is available.

Can you deliver the boat and if so at what cost?
Yes we can deliver the boat. If in continental US, cost is about $1.75 per loaded mile. Longer trips (e.g. Midwest to West coast are somewhat cheaper). We can also arrange shipment and packing for boats sent oversea. Cost for a 40' container to Europe is about $3,500.
