Description

Rare opportunity to own an exceptionally well-documented 1965 Chris-Craft Cavalier 18' Custom Ski (Hull #VUD180046C), #46 of only 60 built for the 1965 model year. Powered by its original 185 HP Chris-Craft 283 V8 with Paragon direct-drive transmission, this is an honest, mechanically sound, driver-quality classic that is 100% turnkey and ready to enjoy. Built at Chris-Craft's Cadillac, Michigan, facility, the boat was delivered to E.J. Wendt Boats & Motors in Richmond, Illinois, on April 20, 1965, and soon became part of one family's summers on northern Illinois' Chain O' Lakes. For the next 55 years, it taught three generations to waterski on Fox Lake and became the backdrop for countless family memories. During the COVID shutdown, a son and grandson thoughtfully restored the boat before I became its next steward in October 2021, bringing it to south-central Michigan. It includes copies of the original Chris-Craft build sheet, owner's manual, and engine manual. Recent upgrades include Pertronix electronic ignition, new seawater impellers, repacked prop shaft stuffing box, bilge blower and ventilation system, period-correct chrome vents and mirror, and custom bow burgee mast. All gauges and navigation lights work properly; only the tachometer needs calibration. GPS top speed is approximately 38 MPH. Included with the boat are a custom travel cover, trailer with new wiring and tail lamps, anchor, dock lines, fenders, boarding ladder, life jackets, and custom paddle/boat hook—everything needed to launch and enjoy immediately. The mid-1960s Cavalier Custom Ski represents a unique period in Chris-Craft history, combining traditional mahogany construction with low-maintenance finishes and the performance of a small-block V8. With only 60 produced, these boats are seldom offered for sale—especially examples with documented provenance, and a history of careful stewardship. We've enjoyed five wonderful summers with "Mojo Risin'," but mobility issues make it time for another family to create memories of their own. Michigan titles for both boat and trailer are in hand.
